Birthday Cake

Well yesterday was my birthday and my Mom surprised me with a Pinterest inspired birthday cake!

cake purple2

It was so good and I loved it being all purple which is my favorite color.  She also cooked my favorite meal, Country Style Steak & Gravy.  My Mema (grandmother) helped with the cake and made my favorite side dish, mashed potatoes.  It was a great night and I enjoyed spending with family.

I just had to share this cake with you, It was so pretty!  I had another slice for breakfast this morning.

Also, I had planned to have a yard sale this morning and share with you but I cancelled a few days ago because I came down with a cold.  Glad I cancelled because 1. it rained and 2. I have completely lost my voice!

Hope everyone is having a great weekend.

We Have…..

An Offer!!

House Contract

This is such a relief!  We have a little wait in the actual closing so fingers crossed that everything stays the course and we have no issues.  We will be busy over the next few months moving so I will be sharing more of that and less decorating for now. We are not sure where we will move yet, still hoping the new house in the Glen Iris subdivision sales but we can always move there if it doesn’t.  Our closing date is scheduled for July 15th.  So sit back and enjoy the journey with me :)

I have been busy this week pulling together lots of yard sale items for a big one I am having this weekend.  I cleaned out a lot of spaces once we listed the house and I’ve just been waiting for warmer weather to get rid of it all.  Stay tuned for details on that after Saturday.

Thanks for hanging in there with me and keeping up with this blog even though I am not wowing you with any fun projects at the moment.  This land development, house selling, not knowing where I will live business has been a real adventure for me.  Especially since I don’t take change well.   I think in the end it will make me a better person by teaching me you can’t plan everything, life happens.  I do pray alot more now :)  I believe God talks to me in lots of ways but especially visually and today I had a long prayer about these changes and later I saw a sign in front of a a church that had the following quote on it…

“Worry pulls tomorrow’s cloud over today.”

I need to learn to live this way, it is so true…I am by nature a worrier and I hope I can change that.

Spring Apothecary Jars

I thought I'd share this post from the past again with you.  I brought out these vases again as part of my Spring decorating and they are so lovely.

I purchased my supplies at Micheal's craft store. I got all the supplies for $30 for 3 jars plus I have left overs if I want to make more later.

Here are some of the supplies....

I picked up a few sticks and acorns from the yard to add. I just used a hot glue gun to place a few pieces together, some are just layered in the jar. It took me about an hour to finish and viola, a fresh new spring/summer vase filler.

Here are some close up pictures looking down into the jars...

Spring Table & Crafts

I had not planned to do much for Easter decor this year but I found a really cute “pin” on Pinterest for making paper daffodils.  Click HERE to see it.  This tutorial is great and these were really easy to make.  Instant inspiration for my table this year.

The grass really started to grow fast and I have to trim it almost every day.  And I am pretty sure my cat Glen has been eating or walking on it that is why it looks a little crazy.

I dyed these eggs years ago, the Martha Stewart way, I took out all the egg and now I save them to use every year.

These are a rare daffodil bulb and they are finally starting to grow.

Love these little chicks! They are ornaments but I thought they were cute just sitting on the plates.  I think they are Two’s Company brand, I bought years ago at a local gift shop.

Over on the buffet I have a shadow box that I painted (more on that later) and added more of my bunnies.  At one point during childhood, bunnies were my favorite animal and I gathered a few ceramic ones and stuffed ones.

These were a gift when my brother was born and are very dear to my heart.

I purchased these letter press stamps at an antique store…notice the “P” that is a “d”, oops :)

So happy Spring time and Easter!!
Hope you all have been having a little taste of Spring weather.

Keeping it Real

I guess you’ve probably noticed that I’ve become more of a weekend blogger.  Not by choice.  I have no projects and it’s really really sad.  I just wanted to stop by and let you know why I have not be sharing with you all as much as I’d like.  I value all of you reading my blog and I  hope to be back at it soon with lots of projects and new stuff to write about.

As much as I love this blog I sometimes feel that I started it at the wrong time.  When I began writing back in February last year I was starting to put more into our house, I was painting more furniture, and we were looking to start building in our new neighborhood.  You can read about that here and here.  I thought I would have plenty to keep me busy for a while and lots to entertain with.  We all know life is unpredictable and I never imagined that we would be trying to sell our house for over 8 months and trying to sell the new house for over 5.

With two mortgages I’m sure you can understand that I have NO MONEY.  I refuse to buy stuff just to blog about, at least right now :) I can’t afford to be stupid with money at the present time.  I miss you, I miss having paint on my hands, and I miss decorating my house.

I stopped at an antique/junk store today that I stumbled upon and drooled over all the furniture, stacks and stacks of furniture…it was torture.  I have stayed away from TJ Maxx for 3 whole months!! I was in Target yesterday looking for a storage box that I needed for work and I ended up in the bath section and they had the perfect, absofreakinglotley perfect mats for my guest bathroom but I turned them down for my perfectly fine unraveling Wal-Mart ones that are 7 years old.  I am saving all my pennies right now and it is so hard!  I have not purchased any new clothes since October and I have been taking more lunches to work and trying to be better about not being so wasteful.  The hardest part for me, hands down, is not shopping for my home!!

I hope you understand.  I hope you’ll stick around and continue reading as I can complete projects and find new content.  I could also use your prayers as we really need one or both houses to sale…not so I can buy crap to decorate with…so life can move forward and we can be more financially sound.

Just wanted to keep you updated and let you know what’s been going on in my really boring life right now :)  I will be back soon with my Easter Springtime Table Setting…so there is something new!

Love Ya!!

Daffodils

My favorite flowers are daffodils and so I thought I would share some pictures of the ones blooming in my yard.  They are so cheerful and they get me so excited that Spring and warmer temperatures are on the way.

I took a few more pictures yesterday after the rain.  I have a few different types planted and they are all in bloom now.

Love them!  I have had these planted for about 4 years now and they are still not very thick.  One day I will have a field of them so I can pick them and fill the inside of the house all Spring.

This guy seemed to like them too. :)
